Company Profile

Comer Industries is a global leader in the design and production of advanced engineering systems and mechatronic solutions for power transmission. Our customers are the main manufacturers of agricultural and industrial machines worldwide.

Comer Industries, founded in 1970 in Reggiolo (RE), ended 2006 with a consolidated turnover above 232 million euros and an increase of more than 12 percentage points compared to last year. Net profit is also up (+35.8%), at 8.2 million euros.

The sales breakdown was 65% in European Union and 35% in the rest of the world, with exports to over fifty countries. 55% of revenues were achieved in the agricultural industry and the remaining 45% in the industrial sector.

There were 1,022 employees at 31 December 2006.

Comer Industries has five Operating Units in Italy: Gearboxes & Driveshafts, Planetary Drives, Fluid Power, Axles & Wheel Drive Units and Comer Industries Components – with eight production sites located in the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Modena, Mantua and Matera, comprising a total area of 656,000ft² / 61,000 m².

To develop and test more sophisticated products and systems, the company created its own Mechatronics Research Center in Reggiolo, on a dedicated 16,000ft²/1,500m² site. The laboratory has been a member of the Association of Public and Private Research Laboratories officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research since 2002.

Comer Industries is a force in a global marketplace, and has foreign subsidiaries in the major markets in France, Great Britain, Germany, the United States and China: Comer Industries Inc. (USA), Comer Industries U.K. Ltd (UK), Comer Industries Sarl (France) Comer Industries GmbH (Germany) and Comer (Shanghai) Trading Company Ltd. in China, were the company has been active for over 20 years.

Comer Industries AG in Switzerland handles financial services, international trading and local distribution. Marketing in countries not covered by subsidiaries is managed through a network of representatives and distributors, while a direct sales force services Italy.

In 2003 Comer Industries adopted Lean Thinking, a modern operating strategy for continuous improvement, having the goal of banishing waste, being more competitive and creating value for the customers. The application of Lean Thinking is now boosted by the Six Sigma tools to define, measure, analyze, improve and control quality of any single product, process, transaction.

The company Quality Management System is certified according to ISO 9001:2000 with reference to all operating units. The Planetary Drive operating unit in Cavriago (Reggio Emilia) obtained UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 enviromental certification in 2006.
